How everyone would react
If I ran away.
If I just dropped everything,
Up and left,
And never looked back.
(Not for years)
What would everyone think?
Would they try to find me?
Would I want them to?
What would they say
If I came home one day,
Five years from now:
Learned of the ways,
Taught by the streets,
Stronger and braver.
(Independent and free)
Would I have grown
Into all the things I want –
I need –
To be?
Would I be changed overmuch?
Would I still be
The person that
They all know
And rely on
And forget about
And mistreat
And disregard
And humiliate
And enjoy?
Would they be relieved,
Glad to see me,
And comforted by the knowledge
That I only ran off,
And didn’t die?
Or would they be furious,
(Irate, even)
To know that I ran
Up and up,
Far, far away,
From everything in my life,
Because I couldn’t handle it?
Would they be aggravated,
By the fact I just
Abandoned them,
Without so much as a
Kiss on the cheek,
And a
Simple hug,
Or a
Brief note,
Hastily scribbled
On a Christmas dinner napkin?
If I were to run,
And not turn around,
Not so much as
A quick peek back,
Over my shoulder,
(It’s bad luck, you know)
Would you follow?
If I asked you
To take my hand,
And run with me,
Away from everything,
All the pain,
The anger,
The fear,
The hurt,
Would you do it?
Leave everything you love,
And hate,
And need,
And destroy?
(If I asked nicely)
If I ran,
Would you follow? [comments] => 3 [counter] => 191 [topic] => 43 [informant] => blackmarker [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => oops )

I really enjoyed this. I relate a lot, and I'm sure most people do, because of all of the stress that I'm put under everyday. No matter how trivial it is, it all adds up.
