Beneath the lines
Of fading ink
Love exists
On folded pages
And somewhere within
The quiet echoes
Of never forgotten heartbeats
Linger on

Dear you,
I have told you everything
Except the only thing that truly matters…

Saved pages
In a tattered box
Trapped up
In old envelopes
Containing the secrets
Of timid hearts
Whose unending passion
Carries on

Dearest,
You are my everything
But I was never brave enough to tell you…

Tear stained
And worn by time
They remain
Cherished treasures
That had been given
Freely, fully
Though accidentally
With love

Darling,
Everything that I love, you are
Though I never had words enough to say it…

Forever on
Aged parchment
They exist
Having learned
To say I love you
Quietly, in
A thousand different
Secret ways

Until…

- Now -

My love,
I would give up everything
For one more letter, one more
Chance to exist beyond the page
You are my everything, you always were
I cannot bear that you are gone.
I love you.
Still.

Forever yours,
Me

I REALLY like this one, SNM. This would be cool to turn into some kind of poetry-video (that's a music video, only poetry and yes, I did just make it up lol)
I think we may have talked about what it's about, but... I'm not sure, so I'll just like it the way it is and not delve too deeply into it.

Lots of love and peace be with you,

Chelsea

This is a beautiful write. Words unspoken are sometimes the ones that come back to haunt us the worst. Nice work, SNM!

I loved that poem, that happens a lot in life and it's sad for someone to just be timid and not exactly tell the person how you feel, I would know I used to be that way. Great poem, really well written.

Learning to say I love you matters little if the words aren't put to use. A lesson I have learned through much trial and error. More error and many such trials. I had a box of old letters for the longest time ... so much went unsaid ... there were also letters of intent, written words that were never sent, gathering the dust of neglected romance. ( sigh )

I really like that one ... and I don't care if I got it or not !!! Nicely written Snemmy.

Yearning? It also made me think of poetry as expression, and how it surreptitiously teaches one to love oneself, in complete acceptance.

Unfortunately, I'm bereft of love letters, but not of inspiration after reading this one.

Thanks for sharing it,

Omg hun, this took my breath away, and it is one of the best poems I have read for a while.

I mean... this just speaks to me, and I fell into it.
(And didn't really want to leave. lol)

This is writing at it's finest.

Beautiful,

*hugs tons*

I've lost count on how many times I've been to this page........I keep getting the same image.

It has an old world feel about it......as if they were letters written to a soldier...maybe WWI. He never returned and she cried over them as she read over and over for a lifetime.

Probably a million miles off....but you write in ways that can be molded to fit everyone experience......an enviable talent. ;o)

Beautifully written..maybe your best
Roses at your feet for this one

One of the best of it's kind,
not overly sentimental.
Very passionate.

so, who is this bozo?

So personal and heart-wrenching. I have such a box of letters, can't bear to throw them out. I hope the recipients of my letters over the years have also kept theirs (such egotism!). A lovely posting (excuse the pun).

love unfullfilled...such a shame
a lesson learned too late by someone, but perhaps not so for others that may read this.
nice style allowing open interpritation!

I can relate to unspoken words, missed opportunities if they don't come out.

thanks for sharing

This is a truly beautiful piece, SNM...written with a style that only you possess. It never ceases to amaze me how wonderfully you express your thoughts and bring them with such clarity to the reader.

I have learned, in my lifetime, that it is better to express your love and risk riducule or rejection than to leave something unsaid that could cost you the love of your life.

Excellent writing, my friend...as always...

This is so different for you, and I think my new favorite of yours. It makes me think of two very old people who spent their lives in each other's shadows without ever truly expressing how they really felt about each other. It has a yellowness and curled edge that make it feel so authentic and at the same time so mysterious and beyond our complete grasp. Well, obviously, I like this.

Love letters are a dangerous thing, breathing life into forgotten sentiments, and keeping the past so present.

I thought this was a meaningful, provocative write. I liked these lines:

Beneath the lines
Of fading ink
Love exists
On folded pages
And somewhere within
The quiet echoes
Of never forgotten heartbeats
Linger on

Well what it speaks to me of is a lost love, but kept alive on the pages of parchment, which can be brought out and read to reexperience ones memories and emotions. However, it probably goes deeper.

Keeping our hopes alive?
A beautiful poem

O.K. so a letter with you, one does come to mind... brought from the box quite a while ago... and oh, everything else of course strikes home... "somewhere within The quiet echoes", "timid hearts", "A thousand different Secret ways".

But all of it is summed up in your third line:

Love exists

We are learning to be less quiet about it, you and I, in the ways we have made our own.

*throws another rose on the pile at your feet
*throws 11 more
*smiles

Delightful poem. Tugs on the heart-strings and reflects the deep emotions that such letters inspire.
