A glimpse into our lives to see who we are
Not the occupation or description labeled on like a scar
Not the practiced words that everyone hears
This is my family, underneath the way it appears

She cries, beside me, in the dark
So close we are, and yet so far...
She hides her tears, beneath a laugh
I smile, because I'm crying too...
The way a story can make you feel
Captured, tranced, and maybe abused
And then she says, I cry for this but not for life?
I nod, because for us both, it is true

He stands there, across the street
With friends, talking, and shuffling his feet
He smiles then, and says his goodbyes
I wonder, what does he see through those eyes?
When he asks for an opinion,
And questions what he has chosen to do, to say
I wonder if he knows of his insecurities and
That we share this problem we both face, in secret, every day?

My sister is a lock, my brother is his own
I try a little every day, to open the unknown
We three together are the keys
The pieces of a family, the pieces of me
