Continued from Blood Flower: Revelations

A crescent moon and a trilled note
Adorned her flesh just below the hair line
Smaller replicas of the markings on my chest

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Her name was Harmony
She turned back towards me
With eyes that most assuredly mirrored my own
Lingering evidence of receding pain
Indicative that she had heard and felt Melodie’s voice as well
She began to speak her past in hesitant whispers
Her life began in this very room
Born to a street walker, a lady of the evening
Who’d had the misfortune of pregnancy befall upon her
With nowhere else to turn and carrying a bastard child
The women of this brothel had taken pity upon her
They had accepted her as one of their own and taken her in
Harmony’s arrival had caused quite a stir within these walls
All of the house occupants were eager to assist with her care
When they weren’t working of course
A rotational schedule adopted, she was raised by all of them
Enabling her mother to return to the evening streets
Her earnings covered their room, board and essentials
Harmony benefited from the different strengths of each woman
As they all imparted upon her their own special skills
She learned to read, write, and how to work numbers
She could cook, sew, and play both a rebec and a lute
She emerged from adolescence perhaps better educated
Than most of her more privileged peers
Yet she remained sheltered both by and from these ladies
Innocent and completely unaware
She knew not the nature of the world around her
At least, until the night her mother was murdered
They found her in an alley off of Markett Street
Lying face down in a gathering pool of her own blood
She had been beaten, cut and left for dead
Her blood had mixed with the dirt in the alley
A thick ruddy paste covered her, head to foot
They brought her back to the house, limp nearly lifeless
They washed the sticky mud from her body
As the first attempts to heal her were initiated
Well intentioned though they were, they might have saved her
Had they let the wounds seal and tried to stave off infection
The lacerations, had there been but a few
Could have all been healed easily, with only minor scarring
None of them alone had been life threatening
The cleansing however, allowed for the fluids of her body
To once again flow freely out of the multitude of her wounds
They counted over seventy tears to the flesh on her back
As the rest of her body was worse, they elected to stop there
She eventually bled to death from superficial wounds
Harmony’s mother was able to provide them one clue
With regards to the identity of her assailant
They would be missing a portion off the top of the right ear
It was found still clenched between her teeth
The ladies of the house forbade Harmony from plying their trade
They felt she deserved better from life
They allowed her to stay and continued to provide for her
She repaid their generosity by keeping up the house
She was near her twenty third year when she found him
To never forget the atrocity that had beset her mother
She had pierced and laced to a leather thong hung round her neck
The only thing her mother had ever actually bequeathed to her
A dried and shriveled piece of human flesh
That it was his, she would never question
She passed him on the street almost five years after the murder
Not only was he missing the tip of his right ear
He was ushering a harlot along beside him at a brisk pace
When their eyes met, he paled, stumbled and was forced to look away
Harmony fell out of sight before he spotted her again
She however, never lost sight of him
Over two months time, she acted as his shadow
Tracking him everywhere he went, watching as he selected the ladies
There were so many of them, it was no surprise he’d not been to the house
Harmony’s nocturnal endeavors of trailing him, attracted some attention
She herself was followed by a curious roof top denizen
Little time and energy went into deciphering the intended target
Yet, as is so often the case with intelligence, Melodie had to know why
When Melodie confronted Harmony, she offered the retribution sought
Harmony’s vehemence that she be the instrument of his end
Did not fall lightly upon the ears of the Lamiae
More out of respect and understanding than of compassion
Was Harmony’s desire fulfilled
He survived her bites as many nights as she believed he had cut her mother
He survived in a cage for eighteen months, hidden away in the cellar
She determined upon his death that she would stay on as eternal guardian
Protecting the ladies of the house, the only family she had ever known
She had been the savior of many a young lady over the course of time
All new members of the house were sworn to secrecy or disposal
Seldom would they opt for the later, and soon enough
The prudence of their decision would become self evident
Harmony’s recital was cut short by a single rap on the door
Followed by an urgently whispered word … “Trouble”
She leapt from the bed and swept through the door
Leaving me to follow
Lovely, lovely, lovely! To make it this far, number thirteen, is true talent... Ah, the world-reknowned unlucky number 13... But an excellent write, cheri! Curious in why there aren't many more comments, in which this masterpiece truly deserves! A wonderful introduction to a new character! Harmony... beautiful name. Ah, Trouble knocks on the door... Who may it be? You ended this piece with many questions arising... Can't wait for the next; maybe answers will lie within it...?
May Anna lead you to obscure dramas, and guide your pen for the sequel of "Dis-Harmony." Thank you so much for keeping this series alive...*no pun intended.* Always a pleasure reading your work!! All my love, cheri! Forever,
Votre cheri fleur *Stephy*
I thought you invented more story in this one,
maybe in a narrative sense.
I would say I'm more intrigued with what will happen next and what this is all leading to;
you have given it aim.
I've been very busy, but I want to read this again and enjoy it after I wrap up some things,
so I hope you keep up the momentum.
I like your characters
and I also like knowing how twisted you are!
We should collaborate sometime,
and really give these guys
something to be afraid of.
I got a little lost toward the end, but the tale continues to fascinate.
Very impressive sir. The story has real intrigue, and as always your words provide great imagery. The ending, which isn't really the end, leaves you wondering what comes next.
Both an author and a poet
*kicks self for not commenting on this before*
I like this, but to me it doesn't have quite the same kick as the others do.
However, I think you have amazing storytelling abilities and I couldn't stop reading this. The end left me wanting more.
Keep writing hun,
I'll keep reading.
*hugs* Phil xxx
