As we bowed our heads in prayer.

Today we sat out on the porch swing,
Enjoyed the cool and gentle breeze.
As we glazed at yonder hillside,
Viewing brightly colored leaves.

For some time we talked together,
Of the things we both hold dear.
Of Kids and Grand Kids living around us,
As we did in bygone years.

All day we walked and talked and laughed,
As in another day and time.
And each day we'll be together,
In the garden of my mind.

Wonderful idea. I'm guessing it's a story of a man who lost his spouse but keeps her with him each day through his memories. It actually made me feel a little emotional and I love it when a poem makes me feel that way. Some of the structure of the poem could be a little more fluid but it actually adds to the poem's innocence.

*wow* this poem was an absolutely beautiful piece to read. it took me back to happy childhood memories. It shows that memories are strong and everylasting, even more precious when u're alone. people come and go but its the time you spend with them...the precious memories you create together...that lasts a lifetime, sometimes eternally. *grin* provided u're prepared to preserve them thro' poetry, art or song.
The words, though simple...brought amazing imagery to mind. I didn't exactly see it in that fatalistic, dark tragedy sort of thing u meant to see, it was sad, moving and yet also filled with hope somehow.

i'm not sure how to interpretate this poem, because on the surface of the issue it seems like it's a very happy poem, but as you get to the last line, could it be about unrequited love. The kind of love where you are always together in your mind, but never in actuality? whatever. Great poem, though I think you could have done without the 'yonder' - 'the far' might work as well, structurally at least.

I can understand, with the recent loss of my sister, birth mother, and father I know that when I miss them the most, they will always be in the garden of my mind.

I wasn't sure where this was going until the final line, at which point the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. I see very few poems that I like or enjoy. Yours is certainly one - an excellent and moving piece - and the message so subtly given.

Thank you
