He stood at the edge of the water.
His hair, that had once been blond,
was thin, and gray.
It was the end of his day.
He threw a pebble into the pond.

As a young man he searched the water’s edge.
Picking up rocks from the ground.
Collecting one for each daughter and son.
Then saving the treasures he’d found.

At middle age, the search went on.
The pebbles were harder to find.
For each special event that his life had sent,
he collected a stone for each kind.

The search went on throughout his life,
as he looked for rocks on the ground.
Of each shade and hew,
He amassed quite a few;
till there were no more to be found.

Then the cycle complete, he stood at the pond
and tossed them in one by one.
Each pebble of clay,
he now threw away
as he awaited his life’s setting sun.

The sands of his life slipped slowly away,
and death waved its beckoning wand.
His life now complete,
he performed his last feat.
The last pebble…
he threw in the pond!

Superb!
Amazing thing is I commented on this a while ago and it did not come up.
Thus, I feel twice blessed to be still the first one to read this very sad and superb master piece
Yes, we all witness our loved ones golden hnair turn silver, and cannot believe it.
And the pebbles, I see them as our efforts to achieve this or that for ourselves or those we love.
We throw, and wait awhile - collect some more to see the effect.
And ah - so often we have to pick up know ones, start afresh thoring pebbles, so it goes all throughout life.

But I trust all these pebbles are somewhere held secure in the true Ground.
Your pebbles are so safe dear John, nothing is lost, not a single pebble.
A true Masterpiece this again..
Thank you for sharing it with us.

I hope this time it will post.
Be blessed John
Your pebbles are safe :)
Nothing is lost!
