Just don't give in to pain
When everything around you
Is drowned in pitch black rain

As lightning lights the sky
I see you standing there
The world is passing by
Unknowing, unaware

You sink down to your knees
Your head between your hands
When no one ever sees
No one can understand

My hands your shoulders hold
My jacket on your back
I'll turn away the cold
And be the strength you lack

I'll hold you in my arms
Till you can stand alone
And shield you from life's harms
Till you can hold your own [comments] => 17 [counter] => 689 [topic] => 16 [informant] => wachumiri [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 74 [ratings] => 15 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FriendshipPoetry )

The power of this is, I think, in its ending. It's a gift really... the absence of judgement, but the offer of security... to know that someone will be strong when the intended feels not-so-strong themselves is quite a touching message. Yes... a gift, indeed.

Very nicely done -
~Snemmy~

Sweet write. What we are most of the time - struggling. What we want to be most of the time - protecting, helping. Sometimes through that aid to others, we calm our own struggles and find an easy strength. A poem that really makes you think as well as feel.

Spike

Till you can hold your own

Reminds me of my husband.

Words of a true friend (which are very hard to find, by the way) written in a wonderfully woven poetic verse.
