that should give us ALL
a bit of heartache
at the setting of every sun.

A tender word forgotten
and the letters we didn't write..

the flowers for thee
you never did see

are what trouble me at night.

The door we might have held
for someone to pass the way-
a bit of a courteous comforting word
we were much to hurried to say;

The loving touch of a hand
or gentle caring tone
that we're quick to dismiss
while we sit in remiss
with troubles all our own.

The little acts of kindness
so readily out of mind,
a chance to be helpful
is all the more doubtful
'cause we think that we haven't the time

It isn't the things that we do
it's the things that we leave undone
that should give us all
a bit of heartache
at the setting of every sun.

Yes, you are so right. It take so little for us to make a huge difference in someone else's life. A smile, a kind work, just a quick touch can go so far as to save a life. We can turn things around for others with simple human kindness. Just a second or two out of our day. What are we doing that is so important that we cannot help our fellowman? What ye sow, ye shall reap? Yes, I believe that. So far my rewards have been great.

Peace,
Rita

Well, now.... I'm going to have to drop by your page more often!

Seriously well thought out, well written and well presented.... and, unfortunately, terribly true. Yes, this sort of heartache I know... though I wish I could say I didn't. *sigh* Thank you for making me pause long enough to consider what matters most.

Personally, I think this belongs in the "Inspirational Poetry" category... but truth be told, I would have listed it as you did.

Billy this is such a beautiful write. It's true that we can make a difference to people by the simple acts of kindness and love. Everyone's too caught up in themselves that these things get left undone. A very well conveyed and expressed piece of poetry opening up our eyes to the fact that what we sow is what we reap as Rita has said before me. Remarkable as always Billy. Keep up the brillant work.
*hugs*

Billy
your poetry is what attracted me to you in the first place, a poem like this makes me realize the mistakes i have made and how important it is to me that we are together for the THE SETTING OF EVERY SUN from now until the our last sun setting. I promise to always let you know how much you mean to me and how much i love you always and forever. To never dismiss your feelings, and never again take for granted your acts of kindness and how much you mean to me
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH ALWAYS HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL
Just keep writing your poems and reading them to me it's what attracted me to you in the begining there all so nice i could read them all the time but i love when you recite them to me more
love
nancy

Sweet, sincere Billy ...

This was probably the most altruisitc piece of poetry I've ever been witness to.
How postively poignant ! You have a kind and gentle heart, my dear. So tender
and sweet. And you are right....it IS the things we don't do that cause the most
grief. So, hugs to you before I forget ....

Got a little something to share .... a few months ago I was going through
the drive-thru at Tim's picking up my morning "wake up cuppa joe"(LOL)
and I decided to pay for the order of the car behind me. I can't TELL you
how wonderful I felt all day. I did not know this person, and the girl at the
window thought me quite mad. But as you said in this poem, it's the
little acts of kindness that mean so very much. Just wanted that
person to feel kinda special that day. Sorry for the ramble there ..... lol
This was a splendid write dear billy.
