Array ( [sid] => 96026 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Dark Road to Nowhere [time] => 2005-05-27 23:46:05 [hometext] => * A poem about the desctructiveness of drugs. This is wierd how much it reflects my friend since i wrote it before I knew she was addicted to hard drugs... please keep her in your prayers. * [bodytext] => You stare out of deep pools of pain
That threaten to spill over
Your bright smile cannot hide the turmoil
Reflected in your broken eyes
The knife twists itself deeper
As the rain beats against your window
Your breath fogs up the glass
As darkness steals across the land
You see "them" on the lawn
Terrible hallucinations
You haven't eaten in days
And now "they" are laughing and pointing
Tormented by crystal meth
Scratching at the "bugs" underneath your skin
Your depression only grows worse
Your pain cannot be pushed away
By the means you employ
Sadness flows through your veins
And tears away at your insides
Spiralling farther into drug's grasp

Taking marijuana for breakfast
Crystal meth for lunch
And Death for dinner

The beginning is awesome!
"You stare out of deep pools of pain

and the ending as well - really well written!

Good poem Joel, though very sad subject matter. Your friend is in my thoughts.
You ended this very well. I understand where you are coming from with this,
as we just had a presentation on crystal meth and other drugs at school. It's
scary the depth and effects of drugs.

My dear friend... the heart and soul within cry recklessly for a way... any way... to help your friend. The pain and seemingly endless sorrow woven beautifully in this poem tears me apart... and I am left vulnerable, only with these words of praise and, hopefully, comfort. You never fail to grab your reader with an iron fist, force them to see things that they wish not to see, yet, cannot help BUT stare at the grotesque image left bare for our eyes... and drown in boundless awe. You express yourself with exquisite detail, as if pouring your very being through your fingertips and onto the page... Absolutely beautiful, and horrifying... Dripping with brutal honesty and merciless anguish. I, too, have had friends that became a drug addict... some perished because of it... And for this, I send my deepest prayers, best wishes, love, and hope to you and your friend. Gorgeous write, as always. All my love. Forever,

Your dear friend/avid fan,

Stephy. *Huggles* Keep er real, cheri.

such a sad truth. written so very well, joel. you made this topic your own, and thats so very hard to do when drugs is such a common topic in poems. ive seen so many, and this stands out, because it was made you own with your words that you mastered in the first line.
