Array ( [sid] => 9819 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => The Soldier [time] => 2003-01-05 17:00:00 [hometext] => Valerie,
This is a dedication to Nathan my young friend, the Number One Soldier.
Hope he likes it
Love Dallas [bodytext] => Dusk descending midst the storm
Of pounding shells and cannon roar,
Wings of death whistling near
I must not falter, must not fall.

With evening shadows closing in
My uniform tattered and worn,
My head is bloodied but unbowed
I feel my spirit scarred and torn.

Around me dead and dying lie
With screams of fear piercing the night,
I hear a lonely bugler's tune
And brace myself for one last fight.

For I'm a soldier of the realm
I responded to my country's call,
A budding future put on hold
But freedom matters most of all.

The sands of time roll down the dunes
And voices whisper oh so clear,
On bended knee I aim and fire
But I feel death hovering near.

Postscript

Midst twisted ranks of fallen foe
They found the soldier there at dawn,
In the sand his final message scrawled
Ahead to freedom, for me not mourn.

Beautiful write, and a moving one as well. My favorite lines are...

I responded to my country's call,
A budding future put on hold
But freedom matters most of all.

That is so moving, how he is putting his life on hold to fight for freedom, and how in the end when he dies he remember freedom once more. It really makes me think about what is important. Thank you for sharing! Keep writing.

My son was once a soilder in Operation Dessert Storm, in Ft. Hood Texas< USA.
Our president was giving a speech the other day, as he deployed the same unit to the Gulf that my son was in. He's disabled now from Military, a peace time everday mission, so u can see this one is alive in my heart as I hear the luv and respect in this MASTERPEICE!
aNY SOILDER WILL CRY, FEEL, HAPPY, SAD BUT MOSTLy DETERMINATION TO GO THAT EXTRA MILE. Just knowing that so many folks are supporting them. Any wife that has lost luved ones to freedom will find the same.
I thank God dailey but more so now that my son is with his three daughters and wife instead of in the Gulf.
Sure his heart will always be there with his comrades but he paid his dues. He never made it to the Gulf in Operation Dessert Storm 'cause the day they were suppose to go the war suficed for the time and he got to come home instead. He wanted so much to go! That's just the way of our soilders!!!!!!
I can go on forever about this but I know you get the picture thru your heart that is made more precious than any gold on this planet we share named Earth!
God bless you, our soilders and even the enemy, in Jesus name amen! "cause they gonna need it!
Thank you so for touching me is this day!
PEACE, ABOVE ALL!
GOD, LUV, OUR REASON!
AND IN IN BETWEEN!
BUT THE GREATEST OF ALL THESE IS LUV!,
emy
Gonna send a copy to my son! right now.
THE SOILDER
also I've been in contact with some soilders due to my support at christmas on msn.com.
They will get a copy too.
Hope u know in the Gulf where they are this will bring um to their knees in appreciation of the fact that we the people understand!
THE SOILDER!!!!!!!!!

Dallas, for the first time in my life I seem speechless, what a beautiful soul you are, If I could reach my hand over the ocean, I'd give you a huge, huge hug, your timing is just perfect, Nathan just suffered a head injury, and this so lifted his spirit, he's doing fine now, you are always in our prayers, we will meet someday, thank you, and bless your soul forever,

you did such a wonderful job of writing this. Tear came into my eyes and all I can think about is what my husband and his unit are facing in the days to come over in Kuwait and Iraq. Keep up the good work
