Selling God

Topic: goodbyepoetry

Iíve never been a joiner;
I like to be alone!
But without an invitation;
Youíve shown up at my home.

Its lovely dear to meet you;
How long must you stay?
Iím still in my pajamas;
You know, its SaturdayÖ

I see you brought your children;
To give your visit sway;
I bet it cures the slamming doors;
And pleas to ďGo Away!Ē

Iím freezing in this bathrobe;
I donít want to be saved;
If you could leave your business card;
Iíll take it to the grave.

Yes, I believe He loves us;
It says so on your car.
Nice you neednít take the bus;
Too bad youve walked so far.

For your sake I will overlook;
Your promise that Heíll cure;
Everything that vexes us;
(Youíre on that list for sure)

You speak of church with urgency;
Like God and Love wonít keep;
I know that Iím not perfect--
But I am no ones sheep.

You need a course in salesmanship;
Your kids need time to play;
I need to get my clothes on;
And enjoy my Saturday.

No one/'/s sheep indeed, if nothing else the visit gave you some good writing material.
