Dreams of lavender and rose
Broken with purpose

Love breaks itself—
It knows no other way
It rends and cleaves
And claws at its desire
Until there is only fire
To prepare the way
Until there is only dust

Love breaks itself—
A fold of water
Snapping at the bay
Clamoring to attention
At the fierce belay
Of a morning storm
Waning away

Love breaks itself—
It knows no other way
It rends and cleaves
And claws at the pyre
Until there is nothing left
To bar the way
Until there is—.

Love breaks itself—
A dream of lavender and rose
Broken with purpose
It rends and claws
To prepare the way
So that there is pain
So that we burn
And claw at our desire
Blinded by the fire
Waiting for the storm to pass [comments] => 7 [counter] => 272 [topic] => 2 [informant] => Iodinelove [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LovePoetry )

The second stanza is my absolute favorite. Good choice to describe so much with so few words.

The more powerful our love, the more blinded we become. Given the choice, I would rather be loved than love. Less breakage, and far fewer band aids.
Great write!

love breaks itself---
that/'/s beautiful how you never
say that it breaks itself apart/
as though it was this element
that could never be reduced into
something else.
that is grace, at the end or in any middle---
great poem!

Two very great things here that I have to point out: 1. I very much was swept away with that storm on a harbor or bay in the second stanza. In fact you invigorated and inspired me a storm so vivid I could feel in myself a description to describe it; a storm that came in and swept over the entirety of the bay or harbor, roared as it entered and roared still more as it left. On its exit it still roared, like a dog with a thousand heads, and some still wanting to return to bite those that were there, but they were safe. For now. 2. I was caught up for a moment trying to calculate and then finally caught the intent behind //"Until there is —."// Very much a clever use of the words and ideas presented in the poem to the point of seeming to be contradictory, ironic, and yet still profound. To say this was well-written alone would not be doing you justice.

Great write :)

Strong poem. I would love to you see your words writing the doppelganger to this concept. Love Binds Itself....

Might help you in viewing lover from a different perspective.

Nicely crafted piece of art.
