Banjo Sandwich
I do not write of a man,
I do not write of bread and meat,
I do not write of strings and chords;
There’s a brazen name I heard,
A name to trench a ditch,
A name called, Banjo Sandwich.
It’s not a name for a planet,
Not a name for Persian rugs,
Not a name for a three-wheeled car,
More like a name for a bar
With sawdust floors
And swinging half doors.
I am not the Banjo Sandwich,
You, are not the Banjo Sandwich,
That name cannot be spoken
Without a wink, nod and grin,
A name that braves a bullet in the back,
A brazen name that swats a lasting smack.
