Land Of Enchantment
I rolled into Ruidoso
with an avocado and a buck,
half drunk and baked to brown
in that gold Nuevo Mexicali sun.
I lost my girl in Red Rock,
two days or lives ago,
now she/'/s somewhere in Arizona,
that’s all she let me know.
Oh, now I know I’ll never make it back.
I’ve ran to far or never left the track,
I remember clearly hazy memories,
how I slipped, let life fell me at the knees,
let it kick my ass to sapling
from a once mighty tree.
Old Mesilla’s dusty taverns,
south of Truth or Consequence
turned the night into a laser show,
from the acid my last dollar spent.
And I cried Anna! to the stars,
they laughed until I sighed,
then in the desert west of Cruces
I folded into earth and died.
