Roots Entwine
strong walls don`t bend to my touch
floors littered with that which we`ve shed
never a moment of peace from above
but we lock the door and retreat to warm beds
I`ve made my mark on these walls
it`s somewhere to keep all that`s mine
a moment alone in a darkened hall
tears spring to my eyes at the setting sun`s light
this is a safe place to be
behind a door, my love sleeps sound
as familiar shadows comfort me
and I suddenly marvel at what I`ve found
softly, a smile warms my face
the rumbling beneath goes quiet
growing fresh roots in the soil of this place
has soothed the deepest of fears and disquiets
I close my eyes and just sink
so deep into this feeling
a wave washes over, smudges my ink
knocks the breath from my chest and I am reeling
I open all my windows
and breathe the fresh air in so deep
tend to my garden, flowers all in rows
every little piece is something I can keep
your voice cries out in the night
soft spoken words and lips on skin
this moment will fade out with the moonlight
nothing is constant and nothing unchanging
in this place, our roots entwine
here and now, it makes me stronger
I am blessed to be yours, and you are mine
feelings run so deep, disconnected no longer
