Keeping pace with the canyons
Where are you headed? What has it cost you?
At best we are guessing; at worst we have lost you.
We climb and we scramble, we dig and we fall;
Gather and shed, forget and recall.
You’re kind when you love, and fierce when you hate;
Slow when youre early and swift if youre late.
Our rhythms and meters never keep pace;
Were trying too hard, we think its a race.
Too many choices, of how we can be;
How will I find that person called me?
A face in the mirror; a head in the crowd;
Ravaged, rebuilt, denied, and endowed.
One day we wake up alone with ourself;
Too high to climb down that dusty old shelf.
We stop and we stay, and we give life away.
And it all seems the same day after day.
We havnt lost; broke even or won;
Weve just come a long way from where we begun.
The faster time went the slower we ran;
And no one much cared if we could or we can.
