Are We There Yet?

Love is not my vehicle of choice, Start ups and breakdowns steal my voice So when you asked for a ride I was beset, My mind racing, 'Is this the first step?'
You travelled light, drifter's luggage, And me weighed down with all my baggage You talked of other trips, no road being set, Yet my anxiety already made me fret.
So my feelings took a back seat, To words and gestures, ever discreet Coffee and polite tete a tete, But my emotions kept screaming. 'are we there yet?'
Cloistered loneliness hardly ever weeps, But when it comes to love rust never sleeps The choice is safe alone or risk regret, The fork in the road is an even bet.
I wonder if I'm ready to share the journey, The lonely path seems made for me Your gaze tells me things aren't set, Still my heart is asking, if I'm there yet.
