Where were you in darkness? I called your name, once, twice, forever. My lonely echoes became to myself loathsome, as if I was the cause of my solitude. Where were you?
I was waiting. Candles, wickless, the unlit fireplace sarcastic, mocking my uselessness, the very sun struck out like a match-- humiliated like a small & disobedient child.
The cold shadows in the absence of light seared my fingers and blistered the soles of my feet.
I pressed forward my vain, hollow cries in the night, unreturned and yet I, foolish, kept pleading. My tongue trembled at the supple touch of your name, and so I kept calling; I was waiting for you.

I liked this poem because the reader doesn't know who your calling out to. You artfully describe the the agony of being alone and desperatly wanting a companion. My only question is the title. Why "repeat?" Still I was very impressed by the poem. Great write. |
