As we met at the crossroads,
You showed me the way.
It was a narrow one way street,
Leading straight to the grave.
You said we couldnt go wrong,
Well Id say we were never right.
It was all just sweet serenades,
In the dead of that night.
The ships have set sail,
And theyre never coming home.
You saw me stare in disbelief,
As they left me all alone.
I watched you shrink into the distance,
Bid soft farewells you never meant.
To the sound of the tear of old letters,
Thoughts crept into minds of the captains men.
Who was that struggling shadow?
A troubled fellow Ill admit,
Pity he stands there slowly dying.
But they didnt know the half of it.
I was such a child,
So many things I should have known.
But that child again Ill never be,
Few youthful souls lie underground.
