I saw a falling shadow It clung to walls It was bone black; stoned soul like martyrs Colored the wall but left no markers It was startled Shapeshifting It tried to hide it's own aura I saw through it; playing puppets and charades It threw it's true nature when it juggled It wasn't my shadow; but no other object fit
It danced against my senses in a composed waltz of water Loosing it's composure I wasn't trying to make it nervous; but it seemed offended With clear glass stare it colored me intimidated I stared back like sky It understood how i stood in my rainy day parade I extended my shape We played patty cake to invisble beats We weren't kin or cut from the same cloth No, I was woven wool, straight from black sheep sheered It was rayon and wore itself with comfort It's demensions were opaque I knew my translucent signal would soothe; but I hid it for fear of overexposure We conversed solemn; dancing around the clock ticks Nonverbal Shadows only speak body language
But then, the inevitible rose to paint zebras on my wall The shadow shrunk Throwing itself in a corner where the sun can't breathe I saw it's crawling panic Like a spider spinning a web to hang itself from It was ripped from the wall It couldn't breathe floor I still remember it's outstretched sleeve of sabbath As if I could rival a star Not that I could do nothing But there was nothing to do And it gasped it's last ember
I buried it under the creeks of the floor boards and door swings Built it a headstone of pillow cases and cereal boxes I thought it dead But when I dead those thoughts It writes me notes on my mirror It tells me I buried it alive I hear it's screams at night Muffled by nightbirds and new moons It haunts me like ghost or memory Luckily, I have the memory of ghosts So I sleep surprised

Good write-
I often find myself writting of things that I once
"was"-
Now I try to write about only what "I have become"-
I often see in my shadow the worst of myself-

Impressive, indeed! The use of imagery and narrative combined is here a symbiosis. Excellent, vivid work.
