Unwitting Time Traveler

Unwitting Time Traveler

I'm 80 and I'm lonely
So many gone now.
But wait... 8 Grandkids.
That's a life!

Woke up this morning,
Is it Tuesday?
Has to be...
Daughter was here 2 days ago.

She was such a good baby.
All my children were.
I remember when...
And she didn't even cry!

Knock at the door,
Meals on wheels.
Must be 12:30
Is it Tuesday?

Am I 83 now? I'm lonely
So many gone.
But wait... Is it 7 grandkids?
That's a life.

Woke up this morning,
What year is this?
Saw my sister yesterday,
Must be '85.

Confused...
Calendar has 2003.
Really?
Silly me!

Had 3 children ya' know,
Lost my oldest son,
I miss him so...
Such a shock!

He was such a good baby,
All my children were.
I remember when...
And he didn't even cry!

I'm 70 and I'm lonely.
Lost my husband at 36.
So unfair
Never saw his children grow.

Confused...
I heard I was 85
Really?
Silly me!

Had 3 children, ya' know.
My 2nd son wore glasses at 7 months!
Youngest baby at that time
Got in the newspaper!

He was such a good baby,
All my children were
I remember when...
And he didn't even cry!

Woke up this morning...
Something different?
Focus, look around.
Is it Tuesday?

The coffee pot?
Where did I get this coffee pot?
Oh well, it works.
Silly me!

I'm going to be 65 on my birthday.
Wonder what the kids will do?
Love getting flowers.
I hope they send flowers!

Had 3 children ya' know.
Lost my husband at 36.
So unfair!
Never saw his children grow.

Confused...
I heard I was 87.
Really?
Silly me!

Woke up this morning...
Strangers in my home.
Wait... Am I home?
Who are these people.

I'm getting married next week!
We're going to have 3 children.
Confused...
They say they are my children!

Confused...
Is it Tuesday?

Wow I like this .Really the pic is a bonus. Unfortunately when age sets in some do think and have these same thoughts. Its a good write You have captured that moment which may be inevitably true for all of us one day. Good write.

Geez...this is me already, and I'm only 28! Great job with this write. A unique concept, yet still relatable in one form or another.
The picture goes perfectly with your poem too.
Very creative! Keep it up : )

Such a sweet and respectful tribute, and spot on, not only for the forgetfulness and responses to it but the arrangement and recurrent aspects of a dwindling memory. I hope you have some "wrinkly" or "crumbly" (sorry - worked too long in aged care) in mind when you wrote this. If so, show it to them soon...and again....and again.

Wonderfully written indeed but a very sad subject.
It would have been great to tell you oh about 14 years ago.
( sad respectful tears in my eyes)
