In an unfamiliar world I drift away, Only to hear voices far away, I bring words in my head, Only to find out my throat has tubes, Restrained in both hands, Nurses shining light in my eyes, Doctors squeezing my hand for me to respond, Hearing my name being mentioned, If only I could open my mouth to respond, If only the tubes in my throat would be pulled out I try to speak but no one understand my saying, I cannot hold a pen to write... I only want to turn to be comfortable But no one understands what I am saying All I see is unfamiliar faces staring at me, I only stare in distance wanting to be freed, Not a muscle moving in my body, My mouth smelling with the tubes in my throat, My lips dry like a desert, Being fed with tubes in my nose, Laying in bed all day staring at the ceiling, I try to yell, What happened to me? But not a single soul noticed, I drift back to my unfamiliar world, Only waiting, waiting When my tubes will be removed from my throat.

Emotional write. I used to work in a CCU. I always...not matter where I worked throughout my nursing career...would try to put myself in my patient's position...I would think what if this was me....my loved one? Made me a good nurse. Peace to you, Laura |
