To Have Never Been

Contributed by Unbreakable on Friday, 11th November 2005 @ 08:33:39 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

What prayer could I pray to have never been?
What lie would I lie to take back each sin?
Who would I turn to, what would I say,
will I want to remember what I felt today?

Why did this happen to me and to you?
What dream did I dream that will never come true?
When did you leave here, why did you go,
how could you expect me to already know?

Why should I live when you gave me no choice?
What laugh can I laugh when you've taken my voice?
Where did I lose you, why did you die,
What in this world, without wings, can fly?

Why do we mourn for the people who leave?
What love could I love when I continue to grieve?
Who will believe me, what can be said,
what feeling is felt in this feeling that's dead?

Now that was a great ending.

I love the question's in this one, not only because of what they ask, but in how they ask it. They're smartly posed, and flow quite well with the rest of the poem. They dont seem at all forced. I wanted to pick out a line that I enjoyed above the rest to point out, but after looking at it, all those lines that say something like "what dream did I dream" or "what laugh can I laugh" are just so cleverly done, I can't really choose. It's a shame there are no answers anyone can really give to this write, unless of course all questions posed were rhetorical, in which case no answers would ever be needed. Excellent!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
