Seeing Through the Scars

Contributed by Twinky on Thursday, 23rd January 2003 @ 01:20:00 AM in AEST
Topic: Suicide

When you look at me do you really see me,

Or do you see my past of self injury?

Can you tell I am depressed and this is how I cope?

Or do you think that for me there was never any hope?

Are you going to walk away and talk behind my back?

Or will you be the one to help put me back on track?

If you saw the blood would it matter to you at all?

Or would you pretend that you saw nothing at all?

Would it matter if I died, if the razor went to deep?

Or would you just be glad to be rid of a FREAK?

I want people to see through the scars and see the real me,

I want everyone to know that I am more than just self injury!!!

Those who show disgust towards you are not real human beings. You need not worry or hate them for their foolishness. one day they have to realize the real self and real beauty..in you...venkat

I love this as another self-injurer I to have been looked at in disgust. I liked this a lot as one friend told me people who have never cut before will NEVER understand those who do. Keep yer head up. Remember you are special and worthy of respect.

OMG, this is exactly how I feel. When my friends see my scars, or see fresh cuts they look at me like I'm crazy! They make me feel like ***** all the time, and I get really uncomfortable. I hate it how people think they know you, and label you with something. I have also been struggling with anorexia, and I am labelled for it. I'm that "anorexic" or "cutter" or "bulimic". It doesn't matter what you're like on the inside, or how you came to have those problems. Most of them don't understand because they have never been faced with the problems I have, and that's how it is for a lot of people. I LOVED this poem, I know that I am not alone out there. Good job hun! Luv ya.

The people who simply see you for what is on the outside are shallow, egomanical, and self-centered bastards. They can't see like we poets can. They beauty for how much it costs to be, while see beauty in the way one treats people around them. You are beautiful. With your beautiful words. Hey, and being a freak isn't always a bad thing look at Buddha, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison. They where considered Freaks in their own right. Everyone gets their own dues in the end. Just hang in there.

That was an amazing poem. I really appreciate it also because being a cutter makes you feel so differnt but kinda helps at the moment.
