When I should be sleeping
I lay awake thinking of you
This remorseful affair
With more sorrys exchanged
Then I love yous
With more handshakes and hugs
Then intense touch
I will regret not regretting
Not withstanding
Are the potent points
The argument has succumbed to envy
Entitlement to my every-
Possession of material
Or intangible, quality
When I should be sleeping
The darkness prevails
A mode of memory
Cumulating from a determined start
(Sinks and breaks a swollen heart)
The night is short-lived
Blame is passed from hand to slippery hand
On the fault line, the meter rang
The red dial scampers on the smooth edge
Levels have exceeded their capacity
(the stockpiles of people strung out on the ledge)
When I should be forgetful
I retain the dullest idea
Short- term processing
Paints in the colors of the year
When I should be sleeping
I am forced to fight back a tear
