On this tattered piece of paper
I see reminders of my past.
It seemed so wonderful
So why didn't it last?
There's a stain in the corner
Where you spilled your favorite soda.
You were laughing so hard
You spit out every iota.
I see where I wrote my name as yours.
"Someday it will be mine." I said.
How sad, how nieve
I was so misled.
When your path crossed mine
The other day
I thought for sure
Now your heart will pay.
So why is it
My heart is in pain?
I tried to hurt you
All in vein.
My friends ask
"Haven't you been down this road before?"
I have, I know
But sadly I want more.
So I sigh and wipe my eyes
Wet from tears.
Take out a pen and write:
I have loved you all these years.
Then I fold it up
Put all our memories away.
That tattered piece of paper
Won't be opened after today.
