'Morning breaks, yet nightfall looms The cycle remains complete Cradles now, tomorrow tombs ...Life, death, repeat'
These words I speak, as but a wisp While I cogitate my action A godless prayer slips through my lips Crave eternal satisfaction
By moonbeam's glare the room's alight Curtains flair in noctilucence A striking frame sleeps soft tonight Love embodied by her presence
Beauty flees as time elapses Endless chronological curse Seconds pass, one's life collapses The molecules slowly disperse
Enshrined upon my starboard wall My inspiration lies in wait A butterfly, encased, enthralls Those tinctured wings I imitate
Once more I gaze her pulchritude The bearer of ardour's mystique Her perfect pallor, lily-hued Enraptured by bestilled physique
'And there she lay, respiring not From now and forth in onyx labyrinth By my own hand, no cure is saught Her silence brought by venomed absinthe
Preservation my motivation Breathstealing sight, evermore's repose Mem'ries without variegation My inspiration for scores of prose'
A work of art born of cathect Awe struck I stand; a spectator My path and God's won't intersect I am forever's creator
'So wrought with guilt, I am haunted Try to banish surging remorse Yet deep down it's what she wanted Any price to halt aging's course
With wine of peridot imbibed By dying hand my words are scribed...'
...So she's given over, a spark of fuel for the Soul Generator. An equitable trade, for there exists no poison more virulent than that of a fading love. In this universe of limitless variables, there remains but one constant;
Only death is forever.

Hmnn. Well, from the first couple of reads, your rhythm has improved since the last series of submissions; but as far as the technicalities are concerned, I'll need to give it over until the weekend or I attempt a scansion ~ let it sink in, for there are parts I'm definitely not sure about (labyrinthe/absinthe) and others i'm smiling at (evermore's repose/scores of prose). It reads like a good storyline, though I need to absorb and understand it fully in time.

Well now!! welcome back!
I can see I am going top have to reread this to absorb it all. My first impressions though are of a haunting darkness that eminates from this piece.
Careful of over modification ( one of my own faults) but I love the originality of the verses and the finality of the ending.
Your writing has definately been missed here!!! Glad to have you back! |

One hell of a way to mark your return, Dan! Excellent!
This reminds me why I often venture to your page --- there is always something intellectual and emotional to be found... something that echoes the classics, yet remains decidedly fresh and perfectly your own. This particular piece... tugs at me... and tugs hard (in the same way, actually, that Curtain Call did).
If I haven't already said as much, I'm beyond delighted to know you were writing while away!
