Notes of a Solitary Dance

I know someday we all die
And for you that day has already gone by.
Life flies by me so fast
The days run together as I wait for my last.

I still cry for what you did
I blame myself for not seeing those feelings you hid.
We all pine for something taken from us
Someday we have to let go, I know I must.

In my heart you are always laughing
And you still smile.
I do not have to retreat inside my soul
And blind myself with denial.

In your heart am I still your dreamer?
Or am I a burning mist that scorches your fingers?

Are you the spark that started it all?
Or are you the one to catch me when I fall?
Are you the reason in the morning to wake up?
Or are you the coffee I drink to perk up?

Am I the end of a tragic romance?
Or am I the last step of your favorite dance?
Am I the tears that slip from your eyes?
Or am I the person who cries?

You are the unsmiling figure in the photograph.
You were the one who never laughed last.
You were my eye when I was a storm.
You are my favorite book, cover bent and pages torn.

I was your life when you forgot.
I was the reflection when you were lost.
I am the one with no beat in my heart.
I am the broken one missing a part.

Together we make the clock tick
Apart we are what's wrong with it.

You wrote the ending of a tragic romance
And now I have no partner for the last dance.

We all dance alone.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
