A comrades welcome hell receive Its what he earned that day When he stood up tall for freedom As chaos came his way
He did not run or try to hide His duty he knew so well Help the ones who could not fight Protect a child from hell
The ground exploding all around Bullets went whizzing by He kept his calm while others ran But inside he wanted to cry
No he never quit the battle Ignoring the blood and pain He held his post and did not give Naught did the enemy gain
Now we line up here in welcome His place here duly won To spend the nights telling stories With us here in Arlington

Courage under fire is something far beyond admirable. It inspires the strong and the meek alike. Nice write!

What a moving tribute to those that serve! The sacrifice, duly noted by this reader, is painfully real. What honor there is here - and in countless places where the brave have battled their way through the chaos.
Well done!
