Ulana Falls

Contributed by ramfire on Monday, 9th January 2006 @ 03:53:44 PM in AEST
Topic: anguished

Above the great falls she now waits for Shone.
Young Iroquoian maiden so alone.
Tryst made to take their lives this early day.
The Chippewa is no good some do say.

Now Little Doe is fearing hes turned mind
to take plunge over Ulana Falls blind
with tied soft deer strips binding close their eyes.
But pretty Doe without her Shone soon cries.

For Iroquoians, Chippewas do hate
the other tribe not seeking ways to mate.
And counting prize, coup gained is braves delight.
In doing so, mans great in others sight.

Twas so with Shone this early day that rose.
For he had tried to steal from hated foes
much wampum, counting new coup taking life
of Iroquoian brave in bitter strife.

Cared he not Little Doe with child did wait
above the Ulana Run falling great.
Now he had wampum prize and flees in haste.
Thought he his taking life all seemed a waste.

And she, with face that spoke of grief and pain,
bound deer strips hiding eyes, felt water rain
from Ulanas cascading thunder flow.
Stepped she now into currents pulling tow.
