Into the Wilderness

She awakens in a melancholy haze
Opening her eyes
To the bleakness of her life
Knowing her day will be
Spent languishing in a daze
Closing her eyes for
One last moment of solitude
She peacefully drifts
For tomorrow
She must venture
Into the wilderness
To clear her mind
And cleanse her soul
Of the darkness
That wreaks havoc and
Commands an exacting toll
But today she will fight them all
The family she loves
The friends who care
Anything that will forestall
The eyes that only stare
For tomorrow
She must venture
Into the wilderness
She knows if she does not
She will slide into
The highs and lows of
A mind that is beginning to rot
Peace and clarity she rightfully desires
But was never quite able to attain
Perhaps with the help of God
A normal life she will sustain
