Wishful Wings

Contributed by Rakerman1999 on Friday, 3rd March 2006 @ 10:18:18 AM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

Once upon a day gone bye
There was a man who wished to fly
He kept a twinkle in his eye
To compliment a heart of gold

His hands were strong and calloused rough
From labors hard when times were tough...

It never seemed to be enough
To make his wishful wings unfold

Though disappointments held him down
He wouldn't once present a frown
He'd play the part and act the clown
So proud, this one who dared to dream

Of soaring over mountains heights
Above the clouds and northern lights
To see the rich and heavenly sights
That make the soul and spirit gleam...

But time is doomed to never last
His future slipped into the past
It seemed to all go by so fast
A life held captive to the ground

And at his end of earthly days
He took his leave of mortal ways...

Now on the winds his spirit plays
A melody of sweetest sound

He slipped away on wishful wings
There's no more need for dreaming things
He knows the joy that soaring brings
Above this rolling sea of men

He tipped his hat and waved good bye
As starlight twinkled in his eye
This man who wished that he could fly
Will never have to land again

This is absolutely lovely. I believe it has a very wistful tone to it. It made me want to drift into dreamland myself.

I wish I could lay a field of wild white roses at your feet. This is so pertinent to my life right now and brings memories also of the past. This is so reminiscent of my blessed Grandfather, whom I so adored. You are a wordsmith that none can surpass.

Warm hugs,
Rita

Oh my, Larry. *sigh*
GORGEOUS, my friend. I loved how this piece flows so eloquently from
one stanza to the next and the rhyming is so unique. But the content . . .
oh gosh the content is fabulous! Gloriously presented perfectly.
Wonderful write Larry.

(and when isn't a write of yours wonderful?)

*hugs*

You are one of my favorite poets and one of only two people whose writing I never find a flaw in.

It is beautiful, truly.

Wonderful write, my friend.
