I am your paint-by-numbers booklet
But, you never stay in the lines
I am the puzzle missing a couple pieces
But, you finish it and never whine
I am the complaint filed for noise
And, you are yelling louder than me
I am the red-hot embers in a fire
And, you sit there warming yourself for free
I am a child's first three steps
And, you catch me as I fall from the fourth
I am the wounded soldier
And you welcome me home from war
I am the tallest skyscraper
And, you rode the elevator just for fun
I am the water on a pleasant evening
And, you are the setting sun
I am the sand between your toes
You don't bother washing me awayy
I am the heat from the asphalt
You walked and I carried you on that hot day
I am the steam rising from a shower
As you grab a towel, you draw me in
I am a poem on a pretty Sunday
And you read me as the week begins
I am the polarized in sunglasses
And you don't have to squint into the light
I am a shooting star that you can rewind
Just in case you missed it on a pretty night
I am the crazy, lovely feeling
That to yourself, you love to inure
I am the act of you habituating
And you are the act of me being secure
