A girl lies alone, rapt in a cage
Banging against bars in all of her rage
Blood on her hands and bruises on her head
She cries out to the world, wishing she were dead
No one to hear her deafening pleas
Praying, she falls down onto her knees
"Why must i live on in such misery and disgrace?"
She asks as she scratches at her ugly face
Reason is no aspect of this poor girl's life
Her only friends are her pen and her knife
With each hour that passes she's nearer still
Preparing is she to go in for the kill
The next morning they find her, lifeless on the floor
They mourn for the life that never was before
They find grasped in her hand a final note
Drenched in the blood from the slit in her throat
Her parents, they opened the letter with care
And stood bewildered by what was there
For upon the paper was but one word
There, in her hand, was written "unheard"

How often do we feel as human beings that we are unheard?
That no one cares or understands?
I found this very thought provoking.
It permeates a great sadness about the human condition that can only be cured with an inner belief and love for oneself.
Excellent poetry.
