Departing

I stare from a balcony at a horizon that never changes
and I find myself reaching for you in the distance, with your screeching and halting of steel against steel and the thumping of freight cars against your tracks.
I listen now to your long drawn sigh, exhausted from pulling your weight, yet you carry me.
I watch through your eyes, as the concrete turns to grass and the rows of brick, to snow capped mountains against the sky. I watch the seasons change at a rapid pace as the ice melts into meadows and rivers thaw.
I look ahead toward my destination but never back.
Youve grown tired of moving, yet the ground has grown tired of me. I drift along with the forward motion, the hum of your engine; and a slideshow of a world in which I no longer have to be.
