In my old town, semper fi was the saying,
Make me proud my mother said
as I left for my training,
My father cries,as the bus pulls away
Dont worry i said,ill be a hero some day
Soon my drills instructor teaches me, who is the boss
As srgnt screams at me "are you dumb or just lost?"
I ponder the question, but out my mouth I scream
"This recruit was born, to be a united states marine!"
and so it would pass, I recieved my dress blues
With knowlege of violence, i might have to use
But with pride over whelming, and my families good cheer
pride is the only thing that will ever cause my tears.

| You are right it is not killing that makes us brave it is standing in the shadow of honesty or in the path of honour. That is atleast what i see in your poem. Good write. |
