I've searched everywhere Even beseeched the Lord for direction But have not discovered the answer anywhere I have brought it to everyone's attention
My mind continues to draw a blank What I read about poetry often sounds absurd Some say poetry should rhyme Then I read non rhyming should be preferred
I am confused and uncertain what to think Is it necessarily required to be just one or the other Which would provide more creativity, Perhaps the poem itself should help us to discover
For a particular write requires a structure all its' own With a mixture of style and form To add uniqueness of expression, Should be the goal, rather then to conform
Words can be beautifully arranged With a message deserving of acclaim When the author exercises creative vision And offers a personal variation and refrain

I would say just write from your heart. Let what is inside of you come out. ( Pre-write your poems that is why you have a journal some poems take time to write. others can be written in a little time )
See the need of the poets on the site and your own needs for friendshi acceptance and love and that will help too.Your poem was good from a didactic stand point. |

Will, Looks like your creativity is hiding right here. LOL I know what you mean and I loved how you expressed it. I know sometimes I am just bottled tight.....and then the word explosion comes. I'm just not very good at being patient. ;)
Peace, Laura |

Dearest Will, your creativity is not lost. Your poem has clearly shown that. Like Archie said, you keep writing from the heart and things will fall in place. You are a talented writer..
Hugs

well, I am not going to shoot down anyones writing style.. what is style.. something already created, and you use it for an example... or what about your own style.. creativeness means just that. I was told long ago by my professors .... you can write on the same topic and all.. you can mimic others.. and you know what... no one can write exactly like you do.. I think, is the poetry style most important, or are the words written most important.. or all of it.... its parts of parts of parts of parts, that make up the whole thing... break it down.. If I feel rhyming my poem will change it up, then I will keep it to free verse... my goodness, and even changing up one end rhyme can change up the whole poem... as far as format... let it happen, unless you want a particular type already created... who is to say... what a poet writes is wrong.. use those 5 senses.. write it as it is.. facts or fiction... take something that is real and sometimes ya gotta soup it up... its not lying, its poetry...
I love your poem here.. I see you found your creativity...
Newaze... partner.. fake it until you make it lol..
keep writing.. I am desperately trying to do other things in writing lately.. not really changing my style, perhaps a few words.. not worried about style as much as I am content..

I'm a big fan of metapoetry - so my interest was peaked by topic alone. Once I dove into this (oh, and I absolutely did!), I was delighted to discover that it was even more than I anticipated. Oh, I could read and talk forever about poets and poetry and their feeling/thoughts on the same. I really enjoyed this!
With regard to your author's note and your interest in receiving feedback/opinions - I'll offer this... I think it varies by poet, frankly. I personally subscribe to the thoughts that you included in the latter part of the poem. My work developes itself, in some way. I don't know if it will sound odd or not, but I honestly feel that each poem "wants" to be something in particular and the most important thing that I can do is to honor that (long, short, rhymed, free verse... whatever). My primary concern when it comes to style/format is whether or not it 'feels' right... whether it appears on the page the way I 'heard' it when it presented itself. Others, I know, want to achieve a particular structure (either their own or a more classic one) when writing. I just can't seem to write that way. The moment I attempt to 'make it' something (some format) in particular it just seems to unravel. I dunno, Terry... I suppose we must all find what works for us, you know?
What I do know is... I liked this piece very much. Well done, sir!

Wow! you got them thinking with this one!
I just think poetry should touch the emotion you are attempting to write about wether that be sadness, happiness or whatever if you've achieved what you set out to do that's good enough.
As for rhyming and all this fancyful AA,BB, sonnet stuff etc.
I never really think about it.
Even though I'm aware of the different forms i just get an absurd idea in my head and go for it!
I've got loads of serious stuff I've never shown but I find being serious drags me down, and that is the very reason you get utter stupidity from me with most of my writes!
This is a very good piece that one could debate endlessly.
Well done.
