The Last Song of Prom 2006

Topic: StoryPoetry

To look so beautiful,
So much money spent,
By the end of the day,
I didnt have one cent,

Got all dressed up,
I looked so nice,
There was no doubt,
That it all had a price,

So self-conscious,
Scared to dance,
But I knew,
That I had once chance,

I set my sights,
For that one guy,
But I knew,
Id just have to try,

He danced with many girls,
I felt I didnt have a chance,
But I knew I was going to regret it,
If I didnt have a least one dance,

A slow song started,
I went to him with haste,
And to my surprise he smiled,
And put his arms around my waist,

We were so close,
His breath on my skin,
His arms tight around my waist,
Our bodies closing in,

It felt so wonderful,
I couldnt take the smile off my face,
When the song ended,
He gave me the most amazing embrace,

I felt so special to him,
I didnt want the song to end,
But when it did I hid my feelings,
I had to pretend,

He makes many girls like him,
Whether he knows it or not,
But hes not allowed to date,
If he tries hell get caught,

He flirts with many girls,
Because he cant have only one,
All he wants to do,
Is just have some fun,

Im nothing special to him,
Its sad to say,
But hes special to me,
And Ill just have to pray,

Maybe he really does like me,
But he cannot date,
Maybe he hides his feelings too,
And will just have to wait,

I dont know what the future will bring,
Its something no one can fix,
But the greatest moment in my life,
Was the last song of Prom 2006.

This is a lovely snapshot of what goes through the mind of a young lady (or boy) who is testing the waters of relationships, yearning for acceptance and love. It is a beautiful time of life, full of wonder, joy and heartache. It reminds me of my 12 year old son, who has recently become aware of his own yearnings, still undefined. Good write!
Butch
