Noone is always hedged in
This reality comes along with our world of constant sin
Tell me, were the angels sleeping when I was in the shower and he beat up my only son
Were the angels sleeping when my enemies started laughing, because they'd won
Were they sleeping when she lied, stole, and plotted on me
Were they sleeping when I couldn't see
Where were the angels when he made me take that drug
Where were the angels when he swept his dirt underneath the rug
Were the angels sleeping when she mistreated one out of two, based on something secretive
Were the angels sleeping at the hospital, when they told me my future wasn't going to live
Do they always sleep in the night
And how come our revenge will never make things right
Were the angels sleeping when I prayed about my own anger
Tell me why angels don't always protect us from unperceived danger
