your name is still that
which sweetly catches in my throat
as i bring myself to ecstasy
with hands i have taught
to feel like yours
how cold and gray this bed has become
it too grieves for your warmth and life
i try to explain that you can never return to us
yet sometimes i seem to be more concerned
in convincing myself
i remember the nights i spent
writing love letters gently
across your face with my fingertips
as your mouth anxiously
sought out my sacred valley
savoring it as if you had not drank
for an eternity
it seems that everything beautiful must die
die violently and much too soon
i wish i could just sail away
in this ocean of my salty tears
with only these fraying memories and dreams
to guide me back to you
