I remember mama was the first one up Rooster crowing under the house closeup Eggs, sausage and biscuits I could smell Mama cooking using water drawn from the well Each of us stumble sleepily to the kitchen table Mama made enough food so to work we would be able Bonnetts and burlap cotton sacks she made for us Ready for work then to the cottonfield without a fuss Mama boiled our clothes in a big washpot over a fire And her fingers bled from scrubbing but she did not retire Mama made mistakes and her kids were whisked away And though it hurts I still say, "Mama, Happy Mother's Day".

Yes Katt, this is a beautiful description of the heroism mothers practice who are not even fully appreciated while bringing their daily sacrifices, hardly observed.
How much we can learn from these words.
Thanks for sharing them with us.
Blessings

Oh Katt dear what a heartwrenching poem here! My mother was very evil, and in those days no one knew of such abusive ways. She nearly killed (stangled) so many times, she shut me up in the dark basement, and bathroom many many times. I should hate her, but I don't, she's the only mother I've got! And likewise Katt you only have one real mother.........and although mine is dead now, I still think of her on Mother's Day and wish her well!
This was a beautifully written poem, lived through tears of times past.........but don't apologize dear............she'll always be your Mother, she alone!
Warm love, and big hugs for you too!
and thank you for having the courage to share this with us!
