it is the after a while
that 6 o clock hour when
the waning light casts amber on the walls and kitchen appliances
Asking questions of me from where have I come
and where will I go
remember what you promised ,asks the stove.
you promised a solution
yet the night is no domain
to ponder this
and the floor
is cold.
Amber amber afternoon
my dreams are cruel allusions
but what is worse is when I wake
I am only that much older.
still why regret these choices
asks the counter top
where canisters of half desired things wait
to be used.
Coffee, tea, me
says the sink,where unwashed dishes will never be
an indignity I could rise above.
and the Dusk..
warm,and birdsong full
the whoosh of traffic whispering
failure...you....failure to thrive.
weak...weak..not one with anything..
but indecision.
and that surprises you ,barks the refridgerator,
grumbles sputters and hums
that you should have no words that mean a thing to us..
your own kitchen
you cannot even cook.
It is the after a while
who could.....

BRAVO! BRAVO!BRAVO! Sharon, I'll try this again. I'm so please to finally find another poetess that speaks to her kitchen appliances! This was a very clever poem, and one that warmed the heart. Welcome to YPDC............we're so glad you joined us to & will be a part,

Welcome to YPDC, Sharon! I do hope you stay a while and share some more of your work... especially, if this is an example of the quality we can expect!! I like this a lot - most particularly, for its uniqueness and its depth. You've put forth some terrific lines here. Well done!
