Sitting at the table
trying to swallow my bread.
Dreaming at night,
Looking in th eyes
of unregarded hatred.
Once again feeling the slice
of the imaginary knife
cutting into my heart.
I've had a good life
So it would seem.
So many material things
So empty inside.
Nothing helping me get over
the loss of my best friend
So long ago.
I'm afraid to let go
I shall always remember
The good times we had.
