When you look in the yard You can see the lost hope The broken hearts, the emotions An old man unsure how to cope
It seems that not so long ago He had a dream life A home, money, a nice car, three kids And a beautiful wife
He can see it very clearly Even though his eyes are weak The devotion she put into the garden When her health was at it's peak
The tree house he built for his kids Tall and sturdy, but with a rickety swing His daughter used to play there, An angel with broken wings
He son, he used to climb Up in that big, old tree Then they had to take him away Because of alcohol and weed
His daughter carried on With her grades, her looks, her pride But she harbored dark secrets Leading to her bloody suicide
The couple tried to put it behind them After all, the still had their other baby girl They vowed to protect her, To save her from this world
She gave them one grandchild Before she had to die The cancer killed her And God gave no reason why
The couple aged, the years flew by They had no time to weep The promised their baby they would carry on, A promise they intended to keep
It wasn't long before Old Mrs.Jones passed away As Mr.Jones held her hand On Heaven's Glorious Day
He survived it all, He made it through The pain, the torture, the love. the laughter Could you?
The old man walks Down to his wife's grave He loved her so much and To her his heart is a slave
He lies nears the fresh pile of dirt His hand skims the polished stone He knows she's down there in the dark This thought sends chills down to his bones
He feels so tired, he has grown weary He whisphers, "It's been a good 78 years" He has won, conquered life Through laughter and tears
There are voices in the distance Calling his name He can hear their panicked tones Then the old man realizes why they came
Soon his body is in the ground But his soul roams the open sky He's up in Heaven, with his family Carrying on, for your soul never dies

Wow, what an emotional poem, I find that wonderful. I love the rhyme scheme, I use the some thing, It's much easier to use then every line rhyming. |
