About a Funeral

Not the tears, Not the overly sympathetic onlookers, Not the mocking, gaudy roses, And the empathetic lilies.
Not the zealous pastors looking for any excuse to evangelize, Not the self righteous choir dabbing at fake tears with two-ply Kleenex, Not even the desperate cries of a family abandoned.
No. The worst thing About a funeral Is the eerie Morbid Macabre creek the lever makes When total strangers lower Lower Lower Lower Your husband, your father, your brother, your uncle, Your Friend. Into the ground.

I liked that you focused on describing things that most people overlook when recounting a funeral. They'd usually talk about the speeches given, the teary faces, the outbursts of tears. The ominously final sound of the lever is something that you have captured beautifully here.

Funerals... you are absolutely right in the way you described them.
Very well done.
