Her Battle Scars

Contributed by NoSaint on Thursday, 29th June 2006 @ 01:02:17 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Her weight hit an all time high
Three hundred eighty five
The doctors told her
You must lose weight to stay alive

A tough decision she needed to make
Have surgery or just give up and die
She talked to many people
Then sat down for a good long cry

Finally she went under the knife
A bypass would just the beginning make
She would have to watch her diet
For hers and her loved ones sake

She dieted and exercised
Walked four miles a day
Aerobics she soon was doing
Smiling as she went on her way

After over two years
She finally reached her goal
She weighed in at One hundred twenty five
But on her skin it took a toll

Mud flaps she lovingly called
The folds of excess flesh sagging
She once more saw a surgeon
Tired of her tummy dragging

They tightened everything up
Making her better by far
Now she proudly displays
All her battle scars

As much as this is a story of success, it also is a warning not to let weight gain get out of hand. A very interesting read, and one that to many is close to their hearts. You have written it well. Hard subject , with a happy ending. Sue x

Good poem. I see this a lot because I work on a surgical floor at a hospital. We use what is called Bariatric Banding. Where they just put a band around the stomach and you go on a special diet. It is reversable also. later

Your title drew me in and the poem topped it off. Yes alot of us struggle with the battle of the bulge. You have written this quite well.
A very inspiring story. I wish her all the best for the coming future.
love, hugs n prayers,

A great analogy for a hard battle, told with gritty sentiment and humour. Battle scars indeed. It takes a brave soul to lose a lot of weight, all that deprivation and exertion, only to look like an unmade bed. Thank goodness for cosmetic surgeons.

You have written another magnificent piece of realization, determination, achievement and, forsaking the vanity of perfection, a pride worth bein' proud of:

"Now she proudly displays
All her battle scars"

BRAVO!BRAVO!BRAVO! A very dangerous and courageous surgery. Faced with death what could you do?
Well written, understood, and wonderful too!
Bless anyone who has to undergo such drastic measures!
So glad the outcome was so wonderful for her and her familie's sake!
Warm love
