Not Stuck on Stanza

Topic: sarcasticpoetry

Are you like me and
Can't quite get most poetry?
Or a poet, one of those
Not liking most prose?

Now don't take me wrong
I enjoy a lyric, I love a good song.
But odes and meter
Leave me atwitter almost never.

Are you beginning to rise in your seats
To defend Emerson, Longfellow, maybe Keats?
Past loves, Gods, Goddesses and faraway tribes
Inhabiting the lines of each of these scribes?

Well, save your time. Remain where you are
Several beside you will beat you by far.
You know, none of the themes are in popular media
No, poetry's fans run to the encyclopedia.

The answer must be that, clearly, I'm lazy.
At my age that's why it's all still quite hazy.
So I'll plod on tororrow, still dazzled by prose
And as for the poets, I'll not be their fair rose.

My fate accepted, I'll reject all their bidding.
As for you, c'mon
You know I'm just kidding!

Without the words of old poets,
We'd be stuck don't you know it,
And some old well known quotes,
Are among those you wrote,
.
So myself I will continue,
Using phrases from the bard,
I think your poem is excellent;
And to like it is not hard.

An enjoyable read, Well done. Sue x

I like the attitude of your poem. And poetry is as varied as people and their personalities. Every poem is a small glimse inside the author. Very Good Write.....

I really liked this and the wit and fun nature about it! I agree each poem is an unique as the author.
