wine and vinegar

just married
& undeniably in love
the happy couple
tore into their wedding gifts
among heaps of appliances
& home decorations
was a bottle of fine wine
which was only to be opened
on a very special occasion
parties passed
newborns passed
birthdays & anniversaries passed
but the wine remained unopened
soon, love too passed
& divorce stared down
the once happy couple
& the wine was retrieved
from its home high upon its shelf
dusty and forsaken
the cork was removed
and vinegar was poured
into crystal glasses
