Like I do every day

And I open the door.
And look down the hall.
And then I look up it.
I put my coat and my hat on the rack.
And I sigh.
Like I do every day.

I turn to the stairs and think of my feet.
And I groan.
But I trudge over to the stairs all the same.
And ascent the first step.
Like I do every day.

And each time I take a step.
My heart breaks
And every time it breaks.
She smiles.
And I cry.
Like I do every day.

And then I get to the top.
And look up and down the hall.
To make sure they didn't follow,
I look back down the stairs.
Like I do every day.

And I go to the left,
And past 3 doors.
Then I knock on the 4th door.
And it's opened.
And I enter.
Like I do every day.

And it's furbished nicely.
There's a table, and it's set for two.
And I sit down.
And poor 2 glasses of wine.
Like I do every day.

And I wait for her to come.
And as I wait.
I examine the room.
And check my clothing.
And check the time.
Like I do every day.

And she enters.
And I smile.
And she smiles.
I stand up, and help her to her chair.
And she sits.
And I sit too.
Like I do every day.

And then we eat.
And it's a wonderful.
We laugh, and we speak.
And we're serious all the time.
But inside I hurt.
Like I do every day.

And then when it's all done,
I walk her across the hall.
To her room.
And I kiss her good night.
Like I do every day.

And I walk down the hall.
And go into the last door.
And there is a chair
A bed, a table, and a glass of water.
And I sigh.
Like I do every day.

And I walk to the window.
And there is a balcony
And I step out.
And I walk to the edge
Like I do every day.

And I stand on the rail.
And I look down.
And I smile.
Then I jump.
Like I do every day.

And as I fall, I cry.
But as I fall, she smiles.
And it makes me smile.
And just before it all ends.
I wake up.
Like I do every day.
