A promise and a threat

Sitting in her room she looks out the window trying to forget,
Every once in a while she hears her father give his threat.
No one notice the little girl cry, or scream, or hurt,
They don’t care about her any more they treat her like dirt.
She’s ten and her sisters four they go through this every night,
Daddy yells, Mommy cries, she listens to them fight.

And every night Daddy says I’ll leave and won’t come back.
He never leaves, things never change, it’s how they play the game.
Tonight is different; she listened for the threat that never came.
Tonight she saw her mommy cry, and daddy leave and slam the door.
Like the times before her sister comes and lies in the bed to cry.

This time it’s changed her daddy kept his promise to leave
And now so will she. The little razor blade she grabs from the draw,
She looks down at her sister and cries soon she’ll be there no more.
One last look around the room and one last tear as she roles her sleeve,
With the pull of the knife deep against her skin she takes her life.

Daddy made a threat to leave; daughter made a threat to die.
Daddy’s gone and so is she, so who should get the sympathy.
